Since beginning his DJ career at the age of 18, Chad Rock knows that without the B-Boy's that came before him, he wouldn't be anything. Without the influence and inspiration of such icons as Afrika Bambaata, The Freestylers, DJ Dan, the Propellerheads, Plump DJ's, Stanton Warriors, and Oscure, he's just another sucker caught up in the game. Music is the medium he uses to speak to the world and keep its people rocking. His only hope is to connect, have fun and help feed societies need for what's next. Chad Rock has played in and around his hometown of Los Angeles, and other US cities like San Francisco, Oakland, San Diego, Lake Tahoe, Reno, NV, Austin, TX, Phoenix and Tucson, AZ, NYC, Baltimore, and Miami. He spun in Cancun, Mexico in 1999, took part in the 2000 LABA Tour in Puerto Rico and played at the 2001 and 2005 Winter Music Conferences in Miami.
In 2003-04, he studied, traveled and rocked the decks in Europe, making the most of his opportunity to play for an international audience. He played weekly in and around Southwest Germany. Two of his CD's were broadcast for a global audience by Nova Radio in Germany, where his seventh CD, Funk Rock 04, won Mix of the Month, voted on by listeners worldwide. In July 2004, he headlined the Sound of Sunshine Festival in Saarbrucken, Germany and played with artists representing 5 countries from around the world. In July 2004, he spun at Bar Vinyl/Vinyl Addiction, HOME OF FINGER LICKIN RECORDS, in Camden, London. Other European gigs in 2004 include St. Patrick's Day Morning in Dublin with Simon F., and Munich, Germany.
In the summer of 2005, Chad Rock went back to Europe. He opened his tour up with another stop at Bar Vinyl in London and then went on to play four gigs in Germany with his European crew, Soulful Studios. He ended his tour in May 2005 with a sick-ass set at Zentraus in Barcelona, Spain. Chad Rock then capped off a very busy 2005 by playing a few sets at Burning Man with the LABA and Space Island. In 2006, he went for second run in Black Rock City: sailing on the Space Wench, residing and dropping the funk nightly at Mekka, chilling with the Space Cowboys, burning on the Purgatory Cruiser, chasing The Do Labs flower, and spinning at the Temple of Breaks.
In 2007, Mr. Rock started with a banging New Years set at his residency, the World Famous Space Island, became a resident at Megaton with Oscure and Maven, and took over the Breakbeat purchasing job at the L.A. landmark, Grooveriders. He played many amazing gigs in 08 including SXSW in Austin with DJ Manny and Bassnectar, San Francisco, Burning Man w/ residencies, Temple of Breaks and Cameltopia, linked up and killed it with Left Side Productions in Ventura, @ Bazaar w/ the Glitch Mob in Hollywood, LA Decom @ Space Island and ended the year on tour in Reno and Lake Tahoe. He also released two new mixes: "For Those About to Rock" and "LA is Dirty", with his 12th mix, "Welcome to Planet Rock" due out in February 08. Since entering the game in 1997, Chad Rock has not stopped dropping the funk.
He has played in almost every major venue in Los Angeles from Giant, Spundae, and the House of Blues Foundation Room to Avalon, the Vanguard, and Century Club, where in April 2006 he opened for 2 Live Crew. His style is self categorized "Funk Rock": A next generation hybrid of booty shakin' funk blended with warehouse rockin' breakbeats. Being one of the first privileged individuals to rock the LABA label and represent what is true today, he knows what's up. With bags packed with skills and a mind filled with devotion, he is definitely one to watch in the days to come.
